JellyFish Lighting alternatives

If you're shopping past JellyFish, the professionally installed alternatives are Bosso, Trimlight, Gemstone Lights, EverLights, and Oelo, with Govee as the DIY option. From each manufacturer's published materials: Bosso publishes the brightest fixture (72 lumens with a dedicated warm-white diode), Gemstone publishes the strongest warranty and the only Kelvin range in the category, and Trimlight publishes the only real pricing. But JellyFish's own strengths are genuine and worth weighing: it's the only brand naming both UL and ETL on its lights and controller, and its controller works without WiFi. We install Bosso — and Bosso loses to JellyFish on both of those points.

What each company actually publishes

Every value below comes from the manufacturer's own website, retrieved July 2026. Where a brand publishes nothing for a row, we say so — that's a finding, not a gap in our research.

“Not published” means the manufacturer states nothing for that factor — not the same as “no,” and never the same as “not certified.” †These are legally distinct claims and we quote each company's own wording rather than flattening them: JellyFish says “UL Certified + ETL Listed” on named components; Bosso says “every component in our system is UL rated,” which is not one of UL's actual designations; Gemstone says “either an ETL or UL certification,” an either/or its own site won't resolve. ‡Bosso also sells a “Lifetime Warranty” through a premium app plan at $20.00/month — a subscription-gated warranty, which is unusual here and which we'd rather flag than bury. Trimlight defines “lifetime” as each part's estimated lifespan and notes daytime usage may void it. Gemstone's warranty is void if not registered within 30 days of install.

The short version

Which one should you pick?

If you're leaving over price opacity

Trimlight is the only brand publishing a range — $18–35 per foot nationally, plus example home totals. Everyone else, including us, quotes per home. At least Trimlight gives you a number to hold a proposal against.

If you want the brightest fixture

Bosso at 72 published lumens, or EverLights at 70. Both use a dedicated warm-white diode, so white comes from a white LED rather than being blended from red, green, and blue — which is what keeps white from drifting purple.

If you want the longest paper warranty

Gemstone — lifetime on lights, 10 years on parts, transferable once. Register it within 30 days of install or it is void, which is a hard kill switch most homeowners never hear about.

If JellyFish's offline control is why you liked it

Gemstone is the closest match; it publishes a local Bluetooth fallback. Be aware that most of the category, including the system we install, is cloud based and publishes no offline mode. If that's your requirement, shortlist on it.

One thing worth saying plainly: in this category the installer matters more than the badge on the box. Both of these are competent products, and the difference between loving your lighting and resenting it usually comes down to the crew that hung it and who answers the phone in year three. Here's what we learned fixing other crews' work.

Asked and answered

Common questions

What are the alternatives to JellyFish Lighting?

The main professionally installed alternatives are Bosso, Trimlight, Gemstone Lights, EverLights, and Oelo, plus Govee as a DIY kit. From each manufacturer's published materials (July 2026), the short version: Bosso publishes the brightest fixture at 72 lumens with a dedicated warm-white diode; Gemstone publishes the strongest warranty and the only published Kelvin range (2800K–7000K); Trimlight publishes the most transparent pricing at $18–35 per foot nationally; EverLights is the only one that also sells a DIY kit; and Govee is the cheapest way to test the idea. JellyFish's own strengths are real — it is the only brand in the group publishing both UL and ETL claims on named components, and it publishes that its controller also works without WiFi.

Why do people look for JellyFish Lighting alternatives?

In our experience the three most common reasons are price, availability, and service. JellyFish publishes no pricing at all — quotes are in-home only — so shoppers who want a number before a sales visit go looking elsewhere. Dealer coverage varies by market, so some homeowners simply cannot get a timely install. And across this entire category, not JellyFish specifically, the complaint pattern is about service in year two or three rather than the hardware itself, which sends people looking for a company with a stronger local service story.

Is JellyFish Lighting worth the price?

That is hard to answer directly because JellyFish does not publish a price, which is itself the honest finding. What it does publish is a strong safety position — "UL Certified + ETL Listed" on both its lights and its controller, the most complete certification claim in the category — a controller that works without WiFi, six different track types for different rooflines, and a 5-year parts, 1-year labor warranty. What it does not publish is any LED lifespan figure; its FAQ answers that question with anecdote rather than an hour rating, while most competitors publish 50,000 hours. Get a written quote and compare it against a Trimlight dealer's per-foot number, since Trimlight is the one brand publishing a range to compare against.

Which permanent lighting brand is brightest?

Among professionally installed brands, Bosso publishes the highest per-fixture figure at 72 lumens, followed by EverLights at 70. Gemstone publishes up to 46 lumens per light and, unusually, also publishes a per-foot figure of 60–100 lumens. Trimlight publishes 20–40 lumens on its Classic bulb and 30–60 on its 3L. JellyFish publishes up to 21 lumens per bulb. Two cautions on reading that list: manufacturers do not all measure the same way, and Trimlight explicitly notes its figures depend on the method of measurement. Brightness also is not the same as quality of white — that comes from whether the fixture has a dedicated warm-white diode or blends white from red, green, and blue.

Does JellyFish Lighting work without WiFi?

Yes, and it is one of the genuine advantages JellyFish publishes. Its controller spec states "WiFi 2.4 gHz, also works without WiFi," though the company does not name the mechanism. Gemstone publishes the same capability more specifically, confirming a local Bluetooth fallback. This matters more than it sounds: a cloud-only system is unusable when your internet is down. The system we install, Bosso, is cloud based — its FAQ says you can control the lights from anywhere "as long as your phone has service" — and publishes no offline mode. That is a real point in JellyFish's and Gemstone's favor and we would rather say so plainly.
